On Maui: Paia Pearl

13 Apr

When we were in Maui in March, my mom and I fell in love with the town of Paia. It reminded me a lot of a town called Bolinas, up in Northern California where I grew up. Very relaxed, colorful, with a little bit of a boho vibe. People were so friendly and gave us amazing recommendations for shopping, eating, and the cutest backyard coffee shop.

PAIA PEARL

The first store we popped into was Pearl. A local version of an Anthropologie store. The buyers had great range, and the merchandising was on point for an eclectic but organized shopping experience. From tie-dye pom pom rompers, to home decor pillows, and comforters, to newly added baby designs, it had all you would need to revamp your home, wardrobe, and family. They carry many local lines, as well as brands from all around the world.

I walked out with only a turkish towel, but I still have my eyes on those two bags, especially the eye clutch. I could’ve spent hours in there, and truthfully we did spend over an hour just talking with the lovely staff. If you’re on Maui, I highly recommend popping in and shopping till you drop too. If you love the photos, but don’t have a trip to Maui planned, they have items online, or you can call into the shop. Their instagram @PaiaPearl is a great look into the store!

What I’m Wearing: Palm Trees

4 Feb

Living in Hawaii, it’s a given that palm trees, pineapples, and tropical prints are a popular pick in my wardrobe. Last week, my boyfriend and I decided to drive up to the North Shore on a whim. The waves at Pipeline were 20-30 feet and there were so many surfers out. I have my go-to stops every time I drive North: Coffee Gallery for their amazing homemade chai lattes, a stop at Pupukea for some fish-spotting, and Kahuku farms for their insanely delicious homemade lilikoi passionfruit ice cream served in a half papaya grown on their farm. It essentially feels like a food and wave tour every trip up there.

Target Hat (similar) / VSPink Dress (not available online)/ Cameron Hawaii clutch (exclusive Honolulu Fashion Week clutch, but others via The Girl & the Water)/ Birkenstock Gizeh (via Nordstrom)/ Tiny Devotions mala necklace (brown and blue)/ Jawbone Up 24 / DIY white mala necklace and Bracelets

We walked the path by ‘Ehukai beach to go to the beach. I loved seeing all the surfers in the most insane waves I’ve ever seen with my own eyes. We left the phones and cameras in the car to just enjoy with our own eyes, so you’ll have to take my word for it. One of the most challenging parts of wanting to blog is the balance between capturing and also living in the moment. So somedays I think you’ll see me most once or even twice on instagram, but don’t be surprised if I also take a day off. It’s good to live in the moment, enjoy where you are and who you’re with, so while it might seem contradictory for a blogger to tell you to shut off your computer and put down your phone, it’s also a goal I’ll be working on as well!

PS- Design update coming soon…. Stay tuned!

What to Wear: Classic Sequins

5 Dec

You can never go wrong sporting sequins during the holidays. Whether it’s a classic shift dress, or a modern pair of track pants, sequins will always be “in.” Rather than include some metallic mini or patterned piece, I wanted to choose just the most classic styles and shapes for the season. Sometimes you need a good go-to, one that you can slip on for that last minute party and feel great in. I’m all for silver or red, or sequins in any style, but for some people wearing sequins is daring enough. That is why for this guide I choose to stick with classic black. These are my favorite go-to sparkly items for the holiday season…

1. If you’re going to go super short make sure you’re covered on top. If you live in cold weather a long sleeve dress will keep you warm, but the mini will still be party-ready. Pair with tights and sky high heels.

2. For cooler weather, a short sleeve mini is best. It can normally get a bit warm in parties so I stick to shorter sleeves, especially here in Hawaii. I love the idea of pairing this dress with bold red satin heels, or gold metallic pumps.

3. For the dress-phobic or fashion forward lady, these track pants are insanely good. For $100, you can stand out on a budget. Pair with a graphic tee for day, and silk sleeveless black button down for night.

4. Mix your sequins with some metallic for a more feminine, girly approach. This dress also has a peekaboo v-neck back that is sure to turn heads, in the best way, of course.

5. For a sexy bit of sequins, this mini skirt is perfect for day to night. Pair with an oversized sweater for a relaxed look, or if you’re daring, a crop top for night!

6. If you’re more of a sit at home and watch movies type of girl, this cozy comfy sweater is the perfect for leggings and a big cup of cocoa on the couch. Bonus, it’s on sale!

7. If you’re looking for only a small amount of sequins, a clutch is the perfect way to punch up any outfit with a splash of sparkle! I’m crushing on this Kate Spade clutch, or this is a version for under $100.

Shop the post below, all items are from Nordstrom, but this post isn’t sponsored. I just love how easy their shipping and returns are!

Island Style: Guava Shop

2 Dec

As enticing as all the big brand sales are, it’s important to remember to also shop small and local this Holiday season. Many small stores depend on Holiday business and it’s often much more fun to shop in a small boutique with a friendly owner rather than just click, clicking online.

While on the North Shore last weekend, I popped into a cute boutique, Guava Shop. I’ve been following the boutique on Instagram for a few months but this was my first stop into the shop. Their store had the cutest windows with local designers like Samudra, confetti garland, and personal photos, I knew instantly it was my type of store. From more local products like Malie beauty and Gillia clothing to L*Space swimsuits, and Free People, the selection was absolutely spot on. Cozy sweaters for beach nights, maxis, minis, pouches, beach blankets, delicious island scented beauty products and candles, basically a one stop shop for anything you might want or need to curate the perfect closet. Guava Shop also has their own line of leather clutches and apparel, which as you can imagine is the epitome of beach chic.

Local girls, it’s a must stop when you’re on the North Shore. For those of you not on Oahu, they take phone orders and have a few of their own items online! In true island fashion, they’re open from “10am-6pm-ish” daily.

Black Friday Early Access

27 Nov

Before we go into the holiday of giving thanks there is one more day to prep your online steals and deals. On actual Thanksgiving I do not stand in line to shop, online shop, or anything of the sort. I give thanks to friends and family and for what I currently have and what I am lucky to have. Many people will not even have a warm home and meal tomorrow so it’s important to be grateful for the gift of life and not the TV on sale at the mall. Just a quick reminder before helping you score that amazing deal this week, it might be nice to give away a few things in your own closet that you might not wear anymore to someone who needs it more…

For you girls on a budget like me, my one stop shop is always Target! For techie types I’m obsessed with the Go Pro Hero, and it’s number one on my holiday wish list.
