Gift Guide: Mother’s Day

7 May

Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday and if you’re last minute like me, you’re scrambling to find the perfect present. I feel lucky each and every single day to have my amazing mom in my life. My mom is caring almost to a fault, going out of her way for every person in her life, she never says no to anyone, and deserves to be pampered for all that she does!

The only problem is, she’s impossible to shop for. But if I’ve learned one thing, activities are the best present for anyone in your life: brunch dates, spa trips, blow outs. Activities together are much more fun than a gift card, or flowers. Jury is still out on what she’ll get this year… but here are a few ideas for your mother.

1. Maya Brenner Initial Necklace- customize your (+ your sibling’s) initials on this thoughtful necklace, up to 3 letters!

2. Victor + Rolf Flowerbomb fragrance- a sweet scent for daily wear.

3. Creme de la Mer Cream- splurge on this amazing cream, because she deserves it, and probably won’t buy it for herself.

4. Coach Willis purse- a classic bag, back in style that she can pass down again.

5. Estee Lauder makeup- makeup appropriate for any age, especially their new BB Cream, apricot blush and bronzers.

6. Kate Spade Rory sunglasses- a retro, chic shape she’ll appreciate forever.

7. Nest Fragrance candles- refreshing scents that will lighten any household.

If the Dry Bar is in your area, it is the most fun + affordable present out there. Champagne, girlie movies, and the perfect blow out. For only $40 per blowout, you can have a day of luxury with your mom, without breaking the bank.

To all the mother’s reading, I hope you get pampered this year. To my mom, I love you so very much, thank you for everything!

Runway to Everyday: Floral Fashion

3 May

“Florals for Spring, groundbreaking..” Miranda Priestly deadpan voice from Devil Wears Prada will always ring through my head each Spring. Yes, we know, florals will always be “in” each summer season. They’re a classic go-to, fit for all body types, styles, and items in your closet.

But this season it’s time to go a little bolder with your florals. Try a floral pant suit a la Alexander Wang, or even better a short suit, for a little less of one look. Go geometric with big colors, like Thakoon. As you can see below, it’s easy to wear florals in any style: pants, dresses, shorts, skirts  and have it work transitionally for the office or play.

Top: Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, Thakoon. Middle: Creature of the Wind, J Crew, Jason Wu. Bottom: Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Peter Som.

One of my favorites of the bunch is J. Crew’s peplum + pants combo that is both seasonally on trend, and affordable from runway to real way. Check out your local H&M to try some styles before investing in a higher end look. But if there was ever a trend to invest in, florals are it. You can wear an amazing floral dress each and every spring, but go for the steal with a floral pant suit in case that one only lasts in 2012.

Here are a few of my favorite floral looks…

Pose It

2 May

To all my app-loving readers, I wanted to share my new addiction Pose. The app is available for iPhones, iPads, Androids, or even on the web by linking through your facebook. I may not have a lot of time lately for full outfit posts, but you can bet I’m linking my #ootd (outfit of the day) on this app!

You can link your brands so followers can see where each piece is from. It’s a much easier way to share your looks on the go or even a sneak peek prior to posting. Some of my favorite style icons like Rachel Zoe, Coco Rocha, and more are on the app as well. Here are a few of my recent looks:

H&M dress, Gucci belt, Club Monaco scarf.

Max Studio dress, Scarf from Florence, Vintage Leather jacket.

Ann Taylor blouse, H&M jacket.

So head over, download the app, and follow me!

Summer’s Perfect Hairstyle

1 May

I thought I’d kick spring off with a re-post of my favorite summer hair style. I created this tutorial a few months ago and it has once again become my daily go-to look. The Sultra Bombshell is a tool I swear by + recommend to each + every one of my friends. It creates beautiful ‘Victoria Secret’ waves, but even my mom who has short hair now loves it.

I timed it, and with my mid-back length hair, it takes me a flat six minutes from start to finish. I use a heat protectant (also by Sultra), and then follow it by Ted Gibson hairspray. Best is, the curl will hold all day so it’s the best transitional look for work to play! Add a few thin braids here and there, for a beachy boho look.

Let me know if you like this look, or any other tutorials you’d like to see!
